Weekend

This weekend's been a good one. Jay didn't manage to go flying as the weather was a bit murky yesterday so he's rearranged it for next Saturday. Cue secret sigh of relief.

Today was much kinder weather-wise. I woke up to a foggy morning and tiptoed downstairs. Looking out of the kitchen window I was transfixed by all the spider's webs. Cables everywhere, festooned from the trees and the washing line. Webs all over the branches, in nooks and crannies along the walls and fences, woven between the wigwams for the climbers. Each and every one silver with dew.

Naturally, I got the camera and went on a pyjama-clad snapping session.

The autumn light's really starting to come into its own at the moment. It illuminates everything softly, even indoors.

Like my purple gladioli.

And little corners around the house.

Later in the morning we went to the farmer's market. We bought lamb (shoulder, for a roast), sausages and chicken. The latter are being cooked in precisely half an hour from now. An autumnal barbecue. With salad and little bottles of beer.

This is me trying to keep hold of Joe. I forgot his reins.

There were lots of tempting things for sale. I'm always partial to a rope of onions. They look good hanging up in the kitchen, and we use tons of them. Onions, I mean - not ropes.

I'm back into knitting again too. It's a good evening pastime when the evenings get chilly. Especially when you're making something to keep the cold out. I'm knitting a scarf. Again. To add to the collection. But I'm being thrifty as the wool I'm using has been recycled I don't know how many times. It's a rather lovely mustard colour.

See you sometime next week - I have lots of posts planned for the coming weeks and a couple of new bloggy ideas too.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend. It's time to get barbecuing! I suspect we'll end up sitting outside this evening wrapped up in layers, nursing a drink and looking up at the hills.

    1. They stick, don't they? And even when you've brushed them off you're convinced you can still feel them on your face...

  2. I love your photos Sarah and hope the barbecue went well. Great to see your face and I love your enthusiasm for Autumn....it's something I'm only now coming around to in my late forties.

    1. I love it! This weather - sunny but with that slight hint of chill to the air - is perfect. The barbecue was fun. Small and select, just the three of us...
As for photos of me, they do appear occasionally but I hate having my picture taken. It makes me squirm!

  3. I'm desperate for a yellow knitted scarf, I just need to find the perfect yarn. I love your photos, especially that purple gladioli, the colour is sensational. I hope you have a good weekend too Sarah. CJ xx

    1. Hi! I think my yarn's by Louise Harding, some kind of tweedy stuff which came in a big loop rather than a ball.
And I'm a sucker for purple gladioli, the darker the better.

  4. Did you wear matching outfits on purpose? Seriously, that's a gorgeous photo of you two :)

    1. Ha! No - it just seems to happen sometimes. Especially when we're both wearing our yellow raincoats. I'm convinced people think I'm a bit nuts, dressing up to match my child...
I do have a thing for stripes though so often end up buying Joe things I'm attracted to.
Maybe I should get some jumpers to match those you've knitted him ;)

    1. It was! We ended up barbecuing bread too so as not to let all that heat go to waste. Smoke-flavoured toast is very interesting...

    1. Thank you! They don't do justice to the display outside on a misty morning though - it looked amazing when I was out there in my PJs :)

  7. It's so nice to see some photos of you! And so beautifully coordinated with Joe, too. ;-)

Your cobweb photos are beautiful. We've had some misty-then-sunny days here lately, the light is just gorgeous. x

    1. Isn't it? The sun seems to back-light everything and gives it a luminous quality.
The matching mum-and-child thing happens quite often, to be honest. Completely unintentional, I promise! We're both denims-and-stripes types :)

    1. Spiders are everywhere, aren't they? We keep getting huge ones running through the house. They get put out, then the following evening: back again. Jay suspects it's just the same one. Maybe it has a door key.
I do hate having my photo taken but sometimes bite the bullet. Cringe-making but necessary as Joe will want to look back at pictures of the both of us one day...

  10. It all sounds so good. The weather here has been nigh on perfect lately. Spiders aplenty indoors, too, plus one slug which the cat brought home.

  13. Beautiful photos of you Sarah! We have that gorgeous autumn light here at the moment too. I love it. The weather has been really lovely here of late and we've been enjoying the last of the warm sunshine. Dewy cobwebs have to be one of the prettiest things in nature. Hope you're having a good week. Bee xx
