Slow Sunday

Sadly, our run of bad luck continues... We had to take Joe to A&E in the early hours of Saturday as he was clearly unwell. It was a pretty scary experience and we were both shaken by it, but the main thing is that he's now fine.

The noisy dog (and its owners) are still causing problems for the entire street. Being woken up at 4am seems to be driving most of our neighbours to distraction.

I'm full of a cold. Sore throat, bad chest and all that.

But there are some (metaphorical, I know it's autumn) green shoots. Joe won't catch my cold as I suspect he's the one who gave it to me in the first place.

We've found ourselves actually getting to know people in our street who we'd never spoken to before and they all seem to be mobilising themselves in order to get some peace and quiet back again.

And our Make Do and Mend Autumn has got off to a flying start with all kinds of home-grown glut goodies coming our way (courgettes, tomatoes, potatoes, broad beans, French beans...)

We've been making lots of little escapes over the past week. Today we had a lovely Sunday breakfast of pancakes, then packed Joe into his new mode of transport and went for a jaunt near Jay's mum's village.

It was one of those mornings where the sun's out one minute then the clouds look ominous (it did actually rain later but by then we were home and dry).

We're having big flat field mushrooms later with stilton on top, garlic bread and a nice green salad. Minimal cooking but I'm looking forward to it (a bit too much).

When life is difficult you just have to be nice to yourself and wait for the storm to pass I suppose. It's hard to believe it will sometimes, but it will.

And all that about children making you get your priorities in order: it's true. Joe's fine and that's the main thing. The rest is just small stuff.

  1. A belated Happy Birthday to Jo ... so glad to read that he's feeling better now, and I hope you soon are too.

That looks like a lovely walk ... and yes, properly the start of autumn!

  2. I'm glad Joe is ok. It's always scary when that sort of thing happens, but it sounds like you had a lovely walk.

    1. We did. The colours are always lovely when you get bright sun and dark cloud, the landscape looks like a painting...

  3. Glad to hear he s fine, children are such a worry it is a wonder parents survive bringing them up. Your choice of meal had my mouth watering, hope the other issues settle soon.

    1. Me too! A lovely quiet morning so far so all the windows are open wide!

A poorly child is a big worry. I'm laying off the caffeine or my nerves will get the better of me I think.

  4. Sorry to hear you're having a run of bad luck, I hope it all gets better for you soon. Glad to hear Joe's ok though, as you say that's the most important thing and everything else is just an annoyance.

    1. Thanks. Am trying to retain a sense of perspective on it all... your peaceful cottage looks like the kind of haven we need to find for ourselves!

  5. I know! We're generally quite laid-back with him but it was truly horrible. I suspect it won't be the last time either!
