Five Things

This book. I've wanted it for ages and it doesn't disappoint... I'm looking for ideas as my ceramics and art courses start next week. Plus, I love Angie Lewin's work.

This cordial. It's addictive and perfect made up with sparkling water. And it's made in Rossendale (from the last remaining temperance bar in the country). I'm a Rossendale girl, born and bred.

This honey - a gift from my mum's recent holiday in North Wales. Good on toast. Even better on Greek yogurt with a few walnuts.

This sweet little jumper, knitted for Joe by a family friend (someone we've never met). She even made him another slightly bigger one for when he outgrows this one. A thank you letter is in order.

These wildflowers growing in the Moss. It's not really a flowery kind of place - more green because of all the trees and shrubs - so it's nice to spot a bit of colour in there.

We've been enjoying the sunshine. Tomorrow we're off to Jay's brother's house in Manchester for a birthday barbecue, then next Saturday and Sunday we have three more birthday parties. I think we'd give anything for a long, lazy weekend away somewhere!

  1. Oh, me too! Have got his Book of Nature (Joe's first book but he's not allowed to maul it yet) and am hoping to get the Workbook next...

  2. Intrigued by the cordial, so had a look online. Dandelion & Burdock and Sarsaparilla, I'm in heaven or in our local chip shop and twelve once more!

    1. I remember the 'pop man' used to drive around delivering drinks like that and you'd save the (glass) bottles to give him back...

Fitzpatricks are famous for their Blood Tonic cordial. When I was little I thought the main ingredient was actually blood so wouldn't go near the stuff - yet I love another local speciality, black pudding!

  3. Rhubarb and rosehip! Yum! I think a trip to Rossendale may be in order!

The Angie Lewin book is wonderful isn't it, it's a favourite of mine too :)

    1. Hello! I think they may send it (the cordial) out by mail. Or their website might list stockists...

  4. I love those cordials, a cafe in the town sells ice cream floats made with them *yum*. I used to work not far from the temperance bar too.

    1. That sounds tasty. Haven't had one of those for years!

Rawtenstall's a bit down at heel at the moment - a combination of closed-down shops and a huge Asda being built right in the centre of town which has taken business from smaller traders and caused a bit of a traffic nightmare. But the old '60s precinct has (mercifully) been pulled down so that's something I suppose!

    2. I worked right across from the precinct right at the bottom of Bank Street. We drove through a while back and I was quite surprised at how different the place looked without it. I love 60's stuff, I grew up in a new town but wow, it wasn't a gem that needed to be saved!

    3. No, it was depressing! I think the Astoria's gone though - that had quite a history and a sprung dance floor that people travelled for miles to dance on decades ago.

I love the 60s too. Architecture and furniture especially :)

  5. That jumper is adorable! My boy is lucky too, his great grandma and Granny both knit for him so he stays warm throughout the cold months. i love Joe's t-shirt!

  6. Cute isn't it? I try not to go overboard buying him things but sometimes I struggle to resist.

But hand-made things are so nice to have. Especially when someone's put time and effort into making them.
