A new month...

Firstly, thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my previous post. It was good to know I'm not the only one who has these occasional sleepless spells...

And so on to this new post, celebrating a new month: May. You know I'm a true autumn/winter lover but May is wonderful... we're heading into late spring and (hopefully) the chilliness will disappear from the air. The hedgerows and verges are becoming lush again and that beautiful, fragrant hawthorn blossom is in abundance.

I'm joining in with Lou's Nature in the Home link-up. It's so nice to see it back; it encourages you to look for the beauty in what grows around us, and I always enjoy seeing how different bloggers interpret each month's theme.

I had intended to go out foraging but actually went and had a poke around our garden to make a little posy. A few little snippings led to a bit of a culinary theme: Alpine strawberry flowers, mint, rosemary and chives.

There's something so simple and lovely about displaying flowers in jam jars. I do keep nice or unusual ones, and despite having quite a large collection of vases I always prefer a basic glass jar. Upcycling at it's easiest.

In a few weeks I'll be thirty something (OK, thirty nine). My birthday falls on a Sunday this year and we'll probably be keeping it low-key and spending it with family. Who knows, maybe Jay and I will manage an evening out together... Speaking of which, today is our anniversary. We'll be eating burgers and fries to celebrate.

Happy posy-making!

  8. Yes, the scent of hawthorn blossom (I'm always stopping on dog walks to have a great big sniff) just shouts 'May', doesn't it? Love your little jar.

    1. It does indeed - I stayed in the Cotswolds one May and my abiding memory is of the country lanes with hawthorn blossoms along them. It was beautiful.

  11. Exactly! We just go for what we really want to eat (and that's rarely anything posh or sophisticated)...
