I don't tend to post daily here at Mitenska, but today I decided to. Because after yesterday's post I'm feeling much more positive. Yes, I know I seem to be suffering from moodswings but hear me out...
Last night we finally had some news and it seems my mum's treatment will be tough but (fingers crossed) successful. I slept properly for the first time in what seems like ages. This morning I woke up to sunshine coming in through the curtains. It's a new month. We're having a family weekend.
Emotions seem to reflect the weather at the moment: clouds gather then part again. I try to react accordingly.
So it looks like February's welcome around here. Tentatively so. But no sense of dread or fear. Just perspective, and gratitude for what we have.
And still plenty to look forward to. Wishing you a wonderful February - a transition where spring is almost upon us but we can still enjoy home comforts while the weather's wild and the days are short.
Above: hellebores making an appearance in the garden; bedtime reading for Joe (from the library); a little purchase in the form of a storm lantern; wedding invitation for next month (in lovely Wetherby); scented narcissi on the mantelpiece; outdoor woollies and wellies at the ready.
There is lots to be grateful for, isn't there? Glad you have some fun to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThere is indeed... without wishing to sound all worthy, you only have to watch the news on any given day to see that. Thanks for visiting x
DeleteWise words - perspective and gratitude. I'm glad things are on the up. Looks like you've got lots to look forward to - those wedding invites look beautiful! And we LOVE I Want My Hat Back in our house. It is pure illustrative genius. (And so darkly funny!) Your new storm lantern is a great colour too - and I love that little robin peeping round. One of yours? xx
ReplyDeleteI wish! The robin's probably from the late 1970s - I remember him being in the house when I was little, and his tail's been glued back on so many times...
DeleteI must admit, I saw that book and the illustrations appealed to me so much we had to get it out. Joe doesn't really get it but I do. Probably just as well ;)
The lantern's from Ikea; think it was around £4 so almost a guilt-free purchase and it looks quite spring-like up there on the mantelpiece with the jar of narcissi. They smell heavenly!
Thanks for your comments. We're feeling tentatively optimistic at the moment but yes, grateful for what we've got and for memories of a very happy childhood x
Some days it's difficult to see the bright side of life, the blue sky, beautiful books with your little boy, etc. Wishing your mum a successful treatment and a speedy recovery. Sarah
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah! Things like this come from out of the blue and leave you feeling shaken up but ultimately more aware of what really matters x
DeleteThis is a truly beautiful post ... gorgeous words and lovely sentiments ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteThankyou Bee! I've learned a lot of lessons this past year or so, and am learning how to cope when things get rough. It's pulled into focus what's really important and what really isn't. No bad thing xx
DeleteI'm glad you're feeling better. I hope February is a beautiful month for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope all's good for you this month too - almost spring!
DeleteWhat lovely images and words. I like your thinking. That book is a favourite here, it makes me laugh so much, and his other book "This Is Not My Hat" is also brilliant. x
ReplyDeleteOoh, we'll keep an eye out for that one! There's a library visit planned for Saturday morning (although I suspect we may end up buying both books as they're so lovely).
DeleteS x
Once again your photos are wonderful. I love the hellebores, so beautiful. I'm glad you managed to sleep...the world (and what's in it) is much easier to cope with when you're better rested!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I'm not a great sleeper at the best of times... Nytol Herbal is a personal friend of mine! But it's hard when you don't sleep for several nights (or more) in a row. It's always a relief to get a decent night.
DeleteI hadn't noticed the hellebores coming out at all then glimpsed them whilst in the kitchen a few days ago. Lovely, aren't they? I think we'll definitely have lots in our 'forever' garden x
Very pleased you have some better news. Wishing you a very good February!
ReplyDeleteAnd the same to you! Yes, things are looking more hopeful... and it won't be long until spring's here. Always a time of optimism. Lambs and daffodils and hot cross buns!
